Understanding Green dry cleaning

Welcome back to the blog, NimNim fam! We’re so excited for the opportunity to chat with Lou Morelli, owner of Carter’s Cleaners over in Everett, MA. NimNim has trusted Carter’s to handle our dry-cleaning orders for a long time and we’re so grateful for their service and insight! Today, we’re going to clear the air about the concept of green dry-cleaning. A lot of people don’t know what it is, how it’s different than regular dry-cleaning, and some of the benefits of green dry-cleaning! In today’s climate, it’s more important than ever to be conscious of our health and the chemicals we expose ourselves and the environment to in our largely manufactured world. When it comes to your laundry, NimNim and Carter’s are proud to say that we don’t use any harsh chemicals in our cleaning processes. Keep reading to learn more.

1. How would you explain green dry-cleaning to someone who might not be familiar with it?

Green dry cleaning simply refers to any dry-cleaning method that does not involve the use of perchloroethylene, a liquid chemical classified by the United States Environmental Protection Agency as a likely carcinogen.

2. How is green dry-cleaning different from standard dry-cleaning?

Alternative dry cleaning solvents are safer for the environment than the standard, which usually includes perchloroethylene.

3. What makes green dry-cleaning better for the environment?

Alternative solvents are environmentally friendly to both humans and aquatic life as compared to perchloroethylene.

4. Is green dry-cleaning better for maintaining the longevity and quality of clothes? How?

Alternative solvents are far superior on many sensitive fabrics and trim! Alternative solvents remove solvent-soluble soil such as oil, grease and pigments, aid in removing water-soluble soil with an effective detergent, are odorless and compatible with fabric-finish additives used for restoring body to garments, and do not promote moisture build-up, which can cause shrinkage and/or water-soluble dye bleeding.

5. What makes your dry-cleaning service stand out from the competition?

Dry cleaning is a service built on trust – the trust customers give to a cleaner for proper care of their personal wardrobe. Carter’s has been earning that trust for over 35 years. We understand that some fabrics require special attention and the quality of our cleaning, no matter the type of garment, is always top-notch. Carter’s is equipped with a team of trained professionals garnering many years of experience, state of the art equipment, and specially-designed additives and processes to deliver an excellent cleaning performance that’s safe for both our customers and workers! We take pride in our work and stand behind our quality customer service.

6. Any other information you might want to share about you, your business, etc.?

Carter’s Dry Cleaners is a second-generation, family-owned and operated dry-cleaning and laundry business with over 35 years of experience. Together, founders Luca and Rosalie Morelli mastered the art of customer care by treating customers as family. They instilled a commitment to exceptional quality and customer care that still guides our company today. The second generation of Morellis, brother and sister Louis and Lisa, run the family business today. Their parents laid the foundation for the siblings to grow the business and Carter’s now has multiple locations in Everett, Beverly, and Marblehead! They continue to use these stores as a platform to build upon the high quality standards set by their parents. Carter’s provides the highest level of customer care and quality cleaning possible!

Thank you so much to our friend Lou Morelli for his generosity, wisdom, and valuable insight! We hope that this post has helped you learn more about green dry-cleaning, and perhaps opened your eyes to switching over to a cleaner that uses healthy and environmentally-safe cleaning practices. The future of safe dry-cleaning is here to stay, and we are so excited for the innovation that lies ahead!
